Year 12 VSV student, Lucy, spends much of her time circus training with Flying Fruit Fly Circus, and even performed at this year’s Melbourne Fringe Festival. Learn more about Lucy and her highflying life!

For as long as I can remember, the circus has been part of my life.

My mum flew trapeze before I was even born. I remember coming with her to classes at Circus Oz when I was just three years old. I would waiting and waiting for the end of class so I could get up and have a little swing myself.

I have gone through many different disciplines during my circus career, including handstands, contortion and juggling.

This year, I performed a show called IMPETUS during the Melbourne Fringe Festival on the 18 September. The main act I performed in the show was a juggling act that I choreographed myself. I also designed the soundtrack that went with it, making this performance very special to me.

Other acts included hula-hoops, trapeze, acrobatics and some performance art pieces that are unique and wildly kooky.

The organisation of this show has really been a family effort, with my mum and dad producing and my dad photographing and designing all the advertising. We are an evolving circus family of the modern world!

This show will probably be my final performance in Melbourne for a while, as I plan to audition for tertiary level circus schools all over Europe and Canada next year.
