Over 30 Agriculture and Horticulture students recently had a sweet experience on AgHort camp.

The two-day camp provided students with the valuable experience of visiting a range of farms. They investigated and witnessed current innovations and technologies being trialled and researched.

Farm site visits included an apple farm, Fankhauser Apples, Flavorite-the largest glasshouse producer of fresh fruits and vegetables in Australia and Lely, a dairy with six milking robots.

Topics covered include pest, weed and disease control, innovation and technologies, adapting to  climate change and sustainable business practices.

AgHort is one of around 100 VCE subjects offered by VSV. This is the largest number of VCE subjects offered by any school in the state.

“Getting your hands dirty in a practical subject like AgHort is critical to VSV’s blended learning model. Camps give the students the opportunity to collaborate, make new friends and experience innovation firsthand,” said Principal Fiona Webster.
