Year 12 student Asiyah moved to Turkey at the start of the year. She is completing VCE in Turkey with VSV, while also attending school in Turkey.

Asiyah loves learning and is committed to sharing her knowledge with others.

How long have you been in Turkey and studying at VSV?

I moved to Turkey earlier this year and moved into our house the same day Term 1 began!

What is your favourite thing about living in Turkey?

I love how local everything is! Unlike Australia, where going out usually needs a car, everything here is walking distance! People are always out and about.

Why did you decide to complete two Year 12s – one in Australia and one in Turkey?

I began year 12 subjects in Year 11 when I was in Australia.

I decided to continue with Year 12 VCE in Turkey because a transition to Turkish school would be really difficult in the last year of my schooling and impact my final score.

What do you want to do when you finish school?

I have always wanted to be a primary teacher. I love younger kids and being around them. I also want to learn Arabic and study Islam to get closer to my religion.

What has surprised you about VSV?

I love how understanding everyone is with everything going on in my life. VSV caters to so many different people and their separate schooling journeys!

What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?

I saw my friends, who also moved from Australia, and stayed at their house.  We always laugh and enjoy our time together.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

“With hardship comes ease.” This is a verse in the Quran that my parents taught me.

I love how it gives us hope and reminds us that everything we feel can be temporary. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Which VSV value do you identify with most and why? (Growth respect, empathy, collaboration)

I identify most with the value of growth.

Everyone is on their own journey of growing as a person. Whether it is getting a degree or improving one’s mental health, it’s valuable to share what you’ve learned with others.
