Students travelled from as far as Birchip in Victoria’s Mallee region to attend Virtual School Victoria’s recent student-led media showcase event.
The ACMI foyer in Federation Square buzzed with excitement as around 70 students and family members gathered to watch the Year 12 Graduate Media films on the big screen and view a photo exhibition.
Year 12 Media Teacher, Daniel Christiansz, praised the quality of the work, which ranged from horror and science fiction to comedy and documentary.
Highlights included Sophie F.’s Angel in Disguise, which won the People’s Choice Award, and Kai C.’s Gravare, selected for Independent Schools Victoria’s Arts Learning Festival.
Daniel also commended VSV students Esme and Leah for confidently MC-ing the event.
“Events like these are a great way to build community at VSV,” he said.
“It was fantastic to see so many VSV staff, students and families taking time out of their schedules to celebrate student work. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make this event such a success.”
Special thanks go to former VSV student Himalaya, who announced the People’s Choice Award and was interviewed by VSV student Elliot about his media product and the challenges he experienced during his production. Huge thank you also to Susan Bye from ACMI.
This event was made possible by the hard work of VSV teachers, Daniel Christiansz, Monica Burstcher, Pieter Schols and the Arts Leader Jared Webster – bravo!
